Picture it: the sound of the River West Allen rippling past, sunlight through the trees, your favourite people gathered around you, and a warm country inn ready to celebrate long into the evening. We're so excited to share that we're working on plans to welcome weddings to The Elks Head.
Tucked into the heart of Whitfield village, deep in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (now known as the North Pennines National Landscape), there are few places in England more beautiful to begin married life. Rolling green hills, wooded riverbanks and wide open skies make the perfect backdrop, whatever the season.
A setting like no other
The Elks Head sits in an amazing spot, right on the River West Allen. Imagine drinks on the terrace and in the garden with the river as your soundtrack, then the evening glow over the valley as the party gets going inside.
Just outside our door stands Blueback Bridge, a Grade II listed stone bridge over the West Allen, thought to date from the 18th century and widened in Victorian times. With its graceful arch and the river flowing beneath, it's the most romantic spot in the village for your wedding photos.
Whitfield is a peaceful, picture-perfect North Pennines village surrounded by the historic Whitfield Estate. It's a place where your guests can slow down, breathe in the fresh country air and truly enjoy your day.
With our 10 letting bedrooms, a hearty breakfast the morning after, and the whole of the North Pennines to explore, you and your guests can make a weekend of it. There's no need to rush home.
